A New York man fell off a Concord Coach Lines bus roof onto the Maine Turnpike on Friday morning.
Derrick McDuffy, 35, reportedly complained about feeling overheated about 11:17 a.m. and opened an emergency hatch before climbing onto the roof of the bus, according to Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
When the bus driver realized what had happened, the driver began to slow down to pull over near mile marker 2 on the southbound side of the turnpike in Kittery, Moss said.
But McDuffy fell from the roof onto the road below, suffering serious injuries. He was taken to Portsmouth Regional Hospital in New Hampshire.
The rest of the passengers on the bus were moved onto a new bus to continue their journey.
The investigation is ongoing.
