A Lewiston man will spend 15 years behind bars for shooting and killing a man before creating a standoff with police.
Jerry Thibodeau pleaded guilty to manslaughter earlier this month in a deal that dropped a murder charge, according to the Sun Journal. He was sentenced on Tuesday to 25 years with all but 15 suspended.
Thibodeau dropped off 40-year-old Anthony Ayotte at the emergency department of St. Mary’s Hospital in Lewiston after shooting him on Nov. 3, 2023, according to court documents.
Police said Ayotte arrived with multiple gunshot wounds and died the next day.
When police went to Thibodeau’s Lewiston home to question him, he refused to come out.
He was arrested after a five-hour standoff with police.
At the time of Ayotte’s death, Thibodeau was out on bail after being previously charged with seven criminal offenses including aggravated drug trafficking, assault, and illegal possession of a firearm.
Thibodeau will be on probation for four years following his time in prison.
