The Maine medical examiner identified the victim of a Nov. 16 house fire in the Washington County town of Meddybemps as the homeowner, 86-year-old Vincent Dineen.

The fire at 624 Main St. was reported just before 6 p.m, and firefighters arrived to find the home engulfed in flames that had spread to a vehicle in the driveway.

More than a half-dozen departments reportedly responded and fought the fire in heavy snow conditions.

Investigators from the fire marshal’s office found the remains of an adult man, later identified as Dineen, inside the home.

The cause of the blaze is “undetermined” because of the extent of damage, the fire marshal’s office said.
