A fire burned down a home in Roxbury on Monday afternoon.

The fire broke out about 2 p.m. at the Horseshore Valley Road in the rural Oxford County town, according to Maine State Police Lt. Aaron Turcotte.

When firefighters arrived, they discovered flames consuming the home, Turcotte said Tuesday.

No people or pets were injured during the fire. The home was a total loss.

Investigators believe the fire originated in the home’s woodstove and chimney system, according to Turcotte.

Turcotte urged homeowners to regularly inspect and maintain their woodstoves and chimneys to reduce fire risk during the winter.

Roxbury is north of Rumford.
