The state fire marshal’s office has arrested Richard Hodge, 34, of Norway, in connection with one of three fires that broke out in the town overnight.
The first fire was reported just before 2 a.m. Friday on Beal Street, according to Maine State Police Lt. Aaron Turcotte.
Hodge was arrested in connection with the second fire, reported at 2:47 a.m. about a half-mile away at 32 Alpine St., a multi-unit apartment complex. The fire was located and extinguished inside one of the apartments, Turcotte said.
While authorities responded to that fire, they discovered a third fire just down Alpine Street and quickly alerted the occupants, who were asleep, Turcotte said.
Hodge is being charged with arson and is scheduled to be arraigned on Monday morning. He was also taken into custody on a probation-violation hold and taken to Oxford County, where bail is not permitted, Turcotte said.
The fires remain under investigation.
Investigators are asking residents in the area to review home camera footage and report anything they see that might help the investigation by calling 207-624-7076.
