A man died Wednesday evening in a house fire in Sumner.
The fire broke out about 5 p.m. at the home off Valley Road, according to Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
Firefighters needed to use four-wheel drive pickup trucks and all-terrain vehicles to traverse the last mile to the off-grid home, Moss said Thursday afternoon.
When they arrived, firefighters found the man dead outside.
The home, which was powered by propane and solar panels, was destroyed.
The Maine medical examiner’s office in Augusta is working to positively identify the man.
The fire remains under investigation.
Sumner is northeast of West Paris in Oxford County.
