Stephen King took to social media on Monday morning to mourn the death of Robert Reiner and his wife, who were found dead in their Los Angeles home Sunday.

King posted to X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, that he is “horrified and saddened” by Reiner’s death, calling him a “wonderful friend, political ally, and brilliant filmmaker.”

Reiner worked with King to direct “Stand by Me” in 1986, based on King’s 1982 novella The Body, as well as the 1990 thriller “Misery,” an adaptation of a novel by the same name that King wrote in 1987.

King, who has been outspoken against the Trump administration, shared similar political views with Reiner, who became known for his activism and donations to causes championed by Democrats.

Reiner and his wife Michele Singer Reiner were found reportedly stabbed to death in their Los Angeles home Sunday, according to The Associated Press.

Singer Reiner was an accomplished photographer, and worked on several of Reiner’s films, including as a special photographer on the set of “Misery.”

Reiner’s son, Nick Reiner, was arrested Monday. Online jail records show that the 32-year-old was booked by Los Angeles police and remained in jail on Monday. It was not immediately clear what charges he would face. The online records showed a $4 million bail had been set.

The younger Reiner, who had struggled with addiction since his early teens, had once been homeless in Maine, according to an interview he did with People Magazine in 2016.

Nick and Rob Reiner collaborated on a semi-autobiographical 2016 film, “Being Charlie,” that included elements of their relationship and Nick Reiner’s experience with addiction. Rob Reiner directed the movie and Nick Reiner was a cowriter, according to the Associated Press.
