BREWER, Maine — This holiday season, a Brewer teen is giving back to the community he calls home.
Dorian Pillsbury, 13, has been helping out his community for several years by raising money to benefit hungry kids and others in need.
Now, with the arrival of the holiday season, he’s teamed up with the business Box of Maine to raise money for the city’s food pantry.
Box of Maine owner Daniel Finnemore said he’s seen what Pillsbury and his mom have been doing for the community over the years and wanted to reach out to see how he could help.
“I just saw what they were doing on social media, and I couldn’t just sit back and watch,” Finnemore said. “I was like ‘I want to partner up with these guys. These guys are rockstars.’”
The business customizes gift boxes filled with Maine-made products and ships them throughout the world.
For all of December, the business will be donating $1 for every gift box it sells to the Brewer Area Food Pantry.
“Everybody needs food; everybody deserves food,” Pillsbury said. “So, we’re really trying to push to make an impact to help people out.”
In addition, Pillsbury has customized his own specialty box.
For each of those boxes sold, 50% of the proceeds will be donated to feeding kids through the Brewer Community Snack Fund.
