Being a hick from the county, I don’t fully understand how an elected official can attempt to be elected to a different full-time government position without stepping down from their current one.

I understand running for re-election to an office one is currently elected to, but how can a full-time elected official, like maybe a governor, run for a full-time federal position, without finishing their current term or stepping down so another can finish the term they were elected to?

Call it what you want, it may be legal, but ethical is not a word that I would use to describe these actions.

Janet Mills ran for governor with the guarantee she would give this office her full attention until her term expired, but now she wants to spend the next 11 months running for a federal office while I expect that her underlings perform her duties.

I think it is time to do the right thing and make it a requirement that any elected official must resign their position so a capable person can finish out the term, while the former state elected official runs for another office. If not, this shows how disrespectful politicians are towards the electorate.

Now stay tuned for the outcome of the current inquisition into the potential theft/mismanagement of state and federal (our tax) dollars here in our great state of Maine.
