WINDHAM (WGME) — Officials say a situation at an elementary school in Windham has been resolved after the school was placed in a “secure status” on Tuesday morning.
RSU 14 Superintendent Christopher Howell said the Manchester Elementary School was in a “secure status” because of a report of a suspicious person in one of the neighborhoods near the school.
Secure status means that the doors to the school were locked and visitors were restricted to the school, according to Howell. Classes and activities inside of the school took place as usual.
Tuesday afternoon, Howell said the situation had been resolved safely and quickly.
The reported person turned out to be an employee at a nearby local business, who did not have a weapon and did not threaten the school at any time.
Howell praised the person who brought forth the report, saying they did the right thing.
