Maine’s most extravagant properties have attracted famous names such as John Travolta and Martha Stewart for decades.
Every year, expensive properties sell in every corner of the state. Though they range in price and use — some appear to be seasonal getaways while others are year-round residences — they show what attracts people to Maine.
These are the most expensive single-family homes to sell in each county in Maine in 2025, according to Redfin.
Androscoggin: $1.2 million, Durham
This newly-built 3,246-square-foot contemporary farmhouse in Durham sold on Aug. 5, 2025, for nearly $1.2 million.
The three-bedroom, four-bathroom home sits on a 1-acre lot surrounded by 35 acres of dedicated green space, but is still just a 20-minute drive from downtown Brunswick.
Aroostook: $760,000, Sinclair
Perched on the edge of Long Lake in Sinclair, this three-bedroom, two-bathroom home sold in January 2025 for $760,000.
Built in 2008, the nearly 3,300-square-foot home sits on more than 44 acres, including a private beach.
Cumberland: $13.4 million, Cape Elizabeth
This five-bedroom, five-bathroom oceanfront estate on roughly 8 acres in Cape Elizabeth sold on Sept. 10, 2025, for $13.4 million, making it the most expensive house to sell in Maine this year.
The 7,600-square-foot home generated media attention while it was on the market this past summer because it was once owned by famous actress Bette Davis.
Franklin: $1.6 million, Carrabassett Valley
Located less than a mile from Sugarloaf, this 2,500-square foot ski lodge sold in March 2025 for just under $1.6 million.
The four-bedroom, four-bathroom property was built in 2011, came fully furnished and provides access to two ski trails.
Hancock: $10.1 million, Bar Harbor
With more than 7,000 square feet of living space, this four-bedroom, five-bathroom estate in Bar Harbor sold on Aug. 11, 2025, for nearly $10.1 million.
The more than 9-acre property on the coast of Frenchman Bay has more than 1,000 feet of shorefront with rocky beaches and two offshore moorings.
Kennebec: $2.7 million, Rome
With more than 2,200-square-feet of living space, this four-bedroom, three-bathroom home in the Belgrade Lakes region sold on July 25, 2025, for $2.7 million.
The nearly 3-acre property has frontage on Great Pond and several outbuildings, including a guest house and a bunk house.
Knox: $8.5 million, North Haven
This two-bedroom, three-bathroom property on North Haven’s northwest shore, which overlooks Penobscot Bay, sold on Oct. 15, 2025, for $8.5 million.
The 4,435-square-foot home on 25 acres was built in 2015 and designed by renowned architect Toshiko Mori.
Lincoln: $5 million, South Bristol
Stationed on a peninsula that juts into the Damariscotta River, this four-bedroom, four-bathroom home in South Bristol sold on Aug. 21, 2025, for $5 million.
The 4,100-square-foot property, including a separate guest cottage, spans more than 13 acres and comes with a dock system and three floats.
Oxford: $2.4 million, Newry
Built in 2024, this five-bedroom, five-bathroom with more than 4,000 square feet of living space sold on Nov. 14, 2025, for $2.4 million.
The three-story chalet sits on slightly more than an acre less than a five-minute drive from Sunday River Resort and has an attached two-car garage.
Penobscot: $1.3 million, Clifton
This 250-acre property offering frontage on Hopkins Pond sold on Sept. 24, 2025, for $1.3 million.
The three-bedroom, two-bathroom home has 1,900 square feet of living space and is a roughly 35-minute drive from downtown Bangor.
Piscataquis: $3 million, Greenville
Located on a peninsula in the southernmost part of Moosehead Lake, this four-bedroom, five-bathroom estate sold in May 2025 for slightly less than $3 million.
With more than 5,900 square feet of living space on roughly an acre, the custom-built home features large windows, a double-sided fireplace, a sauna and a deck overlooking the lake.
Sagadahoc: $2.8 million, Phippsburg
Built in 1989 then expanded and updated in 2001, this 8,000-square-foot home sold in April 2025 for more than $2.7 million.
The seven-bedroom, seven-bathroom home with numerous decks, balconies and patios sits on a 5-acre property overlooking the Kennebec River.
Somerset: $1.4 million, Seboomook Lake
On the shores of the northwest side of Moosehead Lake, this five-bedroom, three-bathroom sold on Dec. 29, 2025, for $1.4 million.
The nearly 4,000-square-foot home sits on a little less than an acre, but includes a sandy beach, a dock and gangway, mooring and boat launch area.
Waldo: $7.5 million, Islesboro
This 15-bedroom, 17-bathroom shorefront estate spanning 13,200 square feet sold in May 2025 for $7.5 million.
The 4-acre property includes roughly 800 feet of ocean frontage with a beach, a heated in-ground pool, a carriage house with a one-bedroom apartment, a greenhouse and a three-car garage.
Washington: $1.4 million, Addison
Situated on the shores of Wohoa Bay, this home offering five bedrooms and five bathrooms sold in May 2025 for more than $1.4 million.
The more than 20-acre lot includes a three-car detached garage with an in-law apartment above it.
York: $6.1 million, Cape Neddick
Built along the rocky coast of southern Maine, this four-bedroom, five-bathroom house with mid-century modern touches sold on Aug. 26, 2025, for $6.1 million.
With more than 6,000 square feet of living space and roughly an acre, the home was built in 2007 and includes an oceanfront deck and pool.
