A Maine man was sentenced on Thursday to five years in prison for having a gun and ammunition after prior felony convictions.
Kirk Wilson, 46, who previously lived in, and planned to return to, Portland according to court records, pleaded guilty to one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. He was sentenced in federal court in Boston.
On Dec. 14, 2023, shortly after 1 a.m., a police officer allegedly found Wilson asleep in a vehicle on the side of the road in Littleton, Massachusetts, according to court records.
The officer searched Wilson and found a 22-caliber handgun with eight rounds of ammunition in a magazine in his pocket.
Wilson was prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition because of prior felony convictions, including a 2008 conviction for assaulting a pregnant person; a 2018 conviction for trafficking fentanyl powder and/or methamphetamine and alprazolam; and a 2023 conviction for unlawful trafficking in scheduled drugs and unlawful possession of fentanyl powder, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.
He faced a sentence of up to 15 years in prison. His five-year sentence was the result of a plea agreement, according to court records.
