Bath & Body Works, the international body care and home fragrance chain, is permanently closing its location in the Aroostook Centre Mall in Presque Isle, an employee confirmed to the Bangor Daily News Monday.

The store’s final day of operation will be Saturday, Jan. 17. It will be open during normal hours — from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. — until then.

The store is one of few remaining longtime tenants at the mall, which opened in November 1993.

Employees were informed of the closure last week, the employee said.

The move comes amid the retailer’s shift away from locations in malls across the U.S. Bath & Body Works closed 34 stores, mostly in malls, between Feb. 1 and Nov. 1 of 2025, according to the company’s third quarter report. At the same time, the business opened 73 new stores across the country.

It’s the second national chain to depart the mall in recent months. American bar-and-grill chain Ruby Tuesday’s, another of the mall’s original tenants, closed in November amid the company’s financial downfall that has nearly eradicated its presence in Maine.

As larger companies have departed, the mall has looked to diversify with standalone businesses. An overstock warehouse and a golf simulator have both opened within it in recent months.

Bath & Body Works has five other locations in Maine, in Bangor, Waterville, Augusta, Auburn and South Portland.

A spokesperson for the company did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
