Merry

Joel Merry was selected Maine County Official of January in honor of his community service by Spirit of America Foundation’s Maine Chapter.

Merry is currently serving his fifth term as sheriff of Sagadahoc County and is a past president of Maine Sheriffs’ Association.

He served multiple years on the board of directors of United Way of Mid Coast Maine, including a year as its chair. Merry has assisted that organization with fundraising, with its Community Read Program and in other ways.

He is a key proponent and contact person for the Good Morning Program (which makes daily calls to senior citizens to ensure their well-being), has been a counselor for Camp Postcard (a summer program organized by law enforcement for fifth and sixth graders), has served on board of directors for Midcoast Youth Center and been an advocate for public safety issues.

Merry also served as a Spirit of America Foundation director, has spoken at several Sagadahoc County Spirit of America ceremonies honoring community service and has done much to help the cause of volunteerism in other ways over the years.

Maine Spirit of America is a chapter of Spirit of America Foundation, an organization promoting community service.
