A sinkhole has closed a portion of Main Street in Bangor on Tuesday morning.
The sinkhole opened on the southbound side of Main Street, near its intersection with Railroad Street, according to an alert from the city.

A small sinkhole opened Friday night at the same location and the city filled and monitored it, Bangor’s engineering director, Jeff Davis, said. A second sinkhole opened Monday night, leading to the traffic disruption, he said.
The city has work crews on site trying to determine the cause of the sinkhole. Crews have dug at least 14 feet deep as they investigate, Davis said.
The sinkhole is at least 4 feet wide, a Bangor Daily News reporter saw at the scene.
The sinkhole is located near the Maine Savings Amphitheater and ongoing construction for the new YMCA. It may be from an old stone sewer line or from an old clay pipe workers found as they are investigating, Davis said.
Traffic may be affected into Wednesday, the city cautioned. Once the cause is determined the city will stabilize the area and fill it with concrete before fixing the road, Davis said.
Traffic along Main Street was moving freely Tuesday morning despite the closures.
