A fire that damaged a vacant single-family home in Ellsworth on Wednesday evening was intentionally set according to the state fire marshal’s office.
The Ellsworth Fire Department was called to 384 Water St. at about 5:50 p.m. for a structure fire.
The residence sustained only minor fire damage, but the fire marshal’s office was called to investigate how the fire started and classified it as “incendiary,” meaning it was set intentionally.
Investigators are asking nearby residents who have security cameras to review their footage for any activity that might be relevant to the ongoing investigation. Tips can be reported to the fire marshal’s office at 207-624-7076 or the Ellsworth Police Department at 207-677-2168.
The fire marshal’s office is also investigating a “suspicious” fire at a vacant boarded-up building in Gorham, reported shortly before 3 p.m. on Wednesday.
