There’s a famous saying: “Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely,” from British historian John Acton.

The latest from the U.S. president and his armed agents suggests he wants to seize absolute power. The capture and replacement of Nicolas Maduro with a compliant (and threatened) vice president in Venezuela, the massive deportations of immigrants who are in the U.S. legally and killing of resisters by ICE agents, the disappearance of reports and information critical of many of the president’s policies, threats of seizing Greenland for rare minerals, and running of Venezuela by U.S. oil company friends are signs to me that he wants to be dictator of at least the Western Hemisphere.

Who and what is next? The taking of Greenland for its natural resources? More detention camps for immigrants and those non-white, U.S.-born whose parents were not born here? Denial of basic needs (food, housing, healthcare) to those whose jobs do not pay enough? Locking up those who oppose his power and corruption?

I believe the president must be removed from office, before our fragile democracy is lost. Congress should be impeaching him, but we can’t depend on that, or a compliant Supreme Court. It’s up to us, those who live here and want to save our personal freedom and democratic government from corrupt power in the White House.

There is plenty of public opposition to this would-be dictator throughout the state. Please join rallies and create your own. Let everyone know: He needs to go.
