When the Bangor Daily News asked readers for input on the top Maine high school basketball rivalries, one answer was the clear favorite: Caribou vs. Presque Isle.

The two Aroostook County towns share a six-mile border and one of Maine’s best rivalries on the court.

“Basketball is really the heart and soul of both communities,” Krystal Flewelling, the Presque Isle girls coach, said. “It’s not just the players and the coaches involved, it’s the town, it’s the church people, it’s the grandparents. The entire community — both communities — love basketball.”

Cameron Levasseur was on hand for both the girls and boys game this week as the Vikings and Wildcats faced off for the first time this season. Presque Isle got the better of the Vikings in both games, and Levasseur got a long reel of great photos from both contests.
