A woman was found dead in Skowhegan on Wednesday night.

After receiving a 911 call about 11:37 p.m., police went to a West Front Street home, where officers found the woman dead, according to Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

The body was taken to the Maine medical examiner’s office in Augusta, where an autopsy was conducted Thursday, Moss said Friday.

Police worked throughout the day Thursday to conduct interviews and gather evidence.

Moss said that the woman’s identity and cause and manner of death are being withheld until she can be positively identified and her family notified.

The investigation is ongoing.
