Border Patrol arrested nine people earlier this month when they attempted to evade an inspection.

The incident happened on Jan. 15 near Bethel, according to U.S. Border Patrol’s Houlton sector.

Border agents gave chase until they reached a dead-end road, where the nine then tried to flee into the woods, Border Patrol said Thursday morning.

Agents quickly tracked them down and took them into custody.

Border Patrol didn’t identify those arrested nor what charges they may face.

“The message remains clear: If you are in the U.S. illegally, you will be apprehended, and consequences will be applied,” the agency said in a statement.
