Ellsworth High School is hosting its annual “Pink Night” on Friday in support of a local cancer center, and this year’s charitable effort will look a little different.

In addition to raising thousands of dollars in funds for the Beth C. Wright Cancer Resource Center, the Ellsworth girls basketball team will be sporting new pink jerseys — a color that has become synonymous with cancer awareness.

Senior guard Lizzie Boles doesn’t just lead the Eagles on the court. She also led her teammates in raising $3,000 for the cancer resource center and helped secure the donations from local businesses that made the new pink jerseys possible.

Ellsworth basketball has been hosting a “Pink Night” for at least a decade, according to school officials, who believe that this is the largest fundraising haul in recent years as part of the effort.

The Beth C. Wright Cancer Resource Center has locations in Ellsworth and Baileyville, and provides education and support to cancer patients, their families, caregivers, and friends.

The Pink Night slate of games will start at 3 p.m. Friday with a junior varsity girls game, followed by the JV boys at 4:30, varsity girls at 6 and varsity boys at 7:30. All games are against Belfast.

A donation ceremony will be held before the varsity girls game.
