We continue to watch an administration shred our Constitution. Elected officials provide the needed power and hijacked departments of government hand the president the means. This is not what a great America looks like.
Generations of soldiers fought in wars to defend democracy, freedom, and dignity. We believed we stood for honesty, respect, and compassion for humanity.
We continue to watch an administration at war with the world and its own country, seemingly bent on destroying anyone who does not support the president’s imperialist vision, which is built on lies and self promotion. This is not what a great America looks like.
We continue to watch a brutal army of masked officers attack people in the streets and drag them into custody. Civil rights are violated, no one is presumed innocent, and these soldiers of President Donald Trump’s ICE operate with impunity. This is not what a great America looks like.
As we continue to watch the dismantling of our nation, I wonder if there will be a remnant of accurate history from which our grandchildren can learn. If so, they may well ask, “How did it happen?” “Weren’t there laws to protect the rights of people?” “Did they disregard wisdom, knowledge, and expertise?” “Did false information go unchecked?” ”Where were the elected officials and agencies who were meant to defend democracy?” We will have to tell them that we watched a single administration debase our nation before the world.
