The plane that crashed at Bangor International Airport on Sunday night ended up upside down.

That’s according to dispatcher calls Sunday night requesting first responders at the airport.

The Bombardier Challenger 600 crashed about 7:45 p.m. shortly after takeoff and then caught on fire, according to the National Transportation Safety Board.

Eight people were aboard the private plane, a Bangor Police Department spokesperson has said.

Seven people reportedly died during the crash, while an eight person — a member of the plane’s crew — was seriously injured, according to the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration.

The plane was registered to Houston-based KTKJ Challenger LLC. But few other details were immediately known about those on board.

Local officials have been reluctant to confirm the number of fatalities or details about possible survivors, citing the soon-to-launch federal investigation.

An NTSB team has not yet made it to the crash scene because of Sunday night’s snowstorm, but the Bangor airport’s director said that federal investigators were expected to arrive later on Monday.

The airport will remain closed for at least another 24 hours.
