The search is still ongoing for three men who showed up in ski masks to a Waldo County woman’s home in late October and shot her.
Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety, confirmed in a Thursday email that the investigation is active and that there are no new updates in the case.
The trio drove up to the Bailey Road home of 40-year-old Astin Elwell of Knox about 4:25 p.m. on Oct. 23, 2025, and when she answered the door, one of them shot her, Moss said at the time.
The men then fled in a Jeep Cherokee, which police later found at a nearby home.
Elwell was taken to MaineHealth Waldo General Hospital in Belfast before being transferred to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. Her injuries weren’t considered life-threatening.
Police believe this was an “isolated incident” and that there’s no threat to the general public.
