A man and woman have been accused of drug trafficking and animal cruelty.
David Zabala, 40, of Brewer was charged with aggravated drug trafficking, refusing to submit arrest or detention, aggravated animal cruelty and violating his conditions of release, while Cassandra Cote, 34, of Bangor was charged with aggravated drug trafficking, according to the Brewer Police Department.
Police executed a search warrant Wednesday at a Brewer home as part of an investigation into drug trafficking.
Zabala, who was on bail for a domestic violence arrest, allegedly refused officers’ commands and resisted arrest.
During the search, officers found a dead dog inside the home, police said Thursday.
Zabala and Cote were taken to the Penobscot County Jail in Bangor, where they remained Thursday morning, according to the jail’s website.
The investigation is ongoing.
