Bangor police arrested Axel-Rodney Brooks, 38, after responding Sunday morning to a report of a couple fighting at a residence.

A woman who was later transported to a local hospital to be treated for her injuries said Brooks threatened and assaulted her over the course of the weekend, including knocking her unconscious and strangling her, according to Bangor Police Department spokesperson Jeremy Brock.

A friend of the woman visited the residence and said Brooks threatened to assault her as well if she called the police, before he left in a vehicle, Brock said.

Police found Brooks away from the scene and transported him to Penobscot County Jail, charging him with domestic violence aggravated assault, domestic violence criminal threatening and criminal threatening.
