Maddie Provost has been among Maine’s best girls basketball players for a while. That’s nothing new.
What is new is that Bangor-area fans get a front-row seat to watch her and her Lawrence Bulldog teammates during tourney time. Provost and the Bulldogs had been playing in the Class A North tournament in Augusta in recent years, but after a statewide reclassification, Lawrence is in Bangor this year to compete in Class B North.
“I’ve never played in Bangor before,” Provost said about taking the floor at the Cross Insurance Center for the first time. “Obviously it’s a great venue. I was looking forward to it, and I’m glad we just got the first win.”
The BDN All-Maine team standout from a year ago wasted little time showing why she’ll be playing Division I basketball next year.
Provost, who is heading to Holy Cross next year, had a game-high 26 points in the Bulldog’s 74-45 win over Mount Desert Island on Friday night.

She also had six rebounds and four assists in the convincing victory. She shot over 70 percent from beyond the three-point arc.
The senior guard averaged over 26 points and 9 rebounds during the regular season.
“I think it was a total team effort. We really shot the ball well, we defended well,” Provost said after the win.

Provost and fellow senior captain Ashley Shores led the way for the Bulldogs. Shores had 22 points and eight rebounds.
Lilli Hanf led the scoring for MDI with 13 points, followed by Lily Collins with 10 and Avery Norwood with nine.
