Two men were arrested in domestic violence cases that were reported within hours in the Bangor area late Friday into Saturday, the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office said.

The first of the two separate cases happened around 8 p.m. Friday, when sheriff’s deputies were called to a home in Garland. They found that Wade Bigelow, 54, of Garland, had strangled a woman and tried to drag her out of the residence. He was charged with domestic violence aggravated assault and criminal threatening.

Nearly five hours later at 12:45 a.m. Saturday, a victim told police Jason Wiggin, 42, of Hermon, had been to their home several times and tried to contact them in violation of a protective order, police said. He was charged with domestic violence stalking and violating the order.

“The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office takes all reports of domestic violence seriously and is committed to protecting victims and holding offenders accountable under Maine law,” the agency said in a statement.
