A Hermon woman was indicted on manslaughter and other felony charges four months after a crash in Topsham killed her passenger and seriously injured another driver.

Lacey Wiles, 26, was indicted Friday by a grand jury in Sagadahoc County on charges of manslaughter, aggravated assault, and operating under the influence in connection with the crash, Topsham police Chief Marc Hagan said in a news release.

Wiles was behind the wheel on the Merrymeeting Bridge at approximately 10:30 p.m. Oct. 4 when her vehicle collided head-on with another car, police said. The crash killed her passenger, 23-year-old Marcus Steinman of Topsham, and injured the other driver, 34-year-old Joseph Lemont of Bowdoin.

Following the crash, Hagan said Topsham police worked with the Maine State Police and spent months investigating to determine if speed or impairment were factors. The grand jury’s decision to put additional charges to Wiles’ indictment suggests there was evidence of both.

Wiles was taken into custody following the indictment on Friday. She is being held at the Bangor jail on $50,000 cash bail.
