Mason Pelletier is having himself a tournament so far.

The sophomore from Easton High School in Aroostook County has scored nearly 80 points combined in his team’s first two Class S North games at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

Pelletier had a cold start to Tuesday’s regional semifinal, but he kicked things into high gear in the second quarter against Katahdin of Stacyville. By halftime, he had 20 of his team’s 26 points. And he finished the game with 34 points as Easton beat Katahdin 72-42.

Pelletier also had 13 rebounds and 7 steals in Tuesday’s game.

That performance was on the heels of his 42-point game last week to start Easton’s run in the Bangor tournament.

“It was close in the beginning, and then we started executing it a lot better — passes, picking each other up and stuff. And we started knocking down our shots, our layups, our passes,” Pelletier told WHOU’s Dale Duff after the win. “Everything started adding up into the final score.”

The sophomore forward was particularly dominant in that second quarter on Tuesday, taking the ball to the hoop and turning hard work on the defensive end into points on offense. You can watch part of that impressive second quarter stretch here thanks to WHOU.live.
