Police on Monday identified the woman who died Sunday morning after being hit by a car while she was pumping gas in Waterville.

The crash was reported at about 11:20 a.m. in the parking lot of the Big Apple convenience store at 364 Main St.

Based on an initial investigation, Waterville police said Richard Moyen, 70, of Strong, was turning right onto Main Street from Waterville Commons Drive when his Subaru hit a Cadillac driven by Kenneth Hughes, 57, of Waterville, who was driving the direction that Moyen was turning.

After the collision, Hughes’ Cadillac went off the road and hit a vehicle parked at the gas pump of the Big Apple convenience store. Michelle Bruce, 37, of Madison, was struck while refueling her vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene, Waterville police said.

Bruce was an administrative assistant at Madison Elementary School, according to the Morning Sentinel. The school was closed on Monday “due to a tragedy impacting the district.
