An Alabama woman was arrested on Tuesday evening after she was allegedly driving recklessly on Interstate 95 and failed to stop for police.
Police received numerous complaints shortly after 5:30 p.m. about the red SUV weaving in and out of traffic at high speed on the interstate in the Auburn area.
State troopers were initially unable to find the car but finally spotted it near mile marker 83 in Lewiston. The driver did not stop for the trooper, according to state police.
Police laid down spike strips around mile marker 68 in New Gloucester. The car’s tires were punctured and it came to a stop before the southbound toll plaza. Police stopped traffic on the interstate and took the driver, Carla Williams, 51, of Homewood, Alabama, into custody.
She was charged with driving to endanger and failing to stop for a law enforcement officer. She was taken to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation, according to state police.
