Police were called to Oceanside High School in Rockland because of a potential threat to the school on Friday.
According to a statement released by Regional School Unit 13, the student had made “serious and concerning” statements that may have posed a danger to the school. When police arrived, a firearm and ammunition was found in the student’s vehicle.
There was no immediate threat to the school, according to officials, and there is an ongoing investigation by the Rockland Police Department. Oceanside High School is working with the police department to assist in the investigation into Friday’s threat.
RSU 13 serves students in Rockland, Thomaston, South Thomaston, Owls Head and Cushing.
The school district has emphasized that students should say something if anything feels unsafe or if they believe that something is concerning, as well as noting that staff regularly attend safety training and reporting systems are in place for anyone who has concerns.
