Man who died at Maine homeless encampment has been identified

The man who died Tuesday afternoon at a homeless encampment in Auburn has been identified.

Jaime Jimino, 47, formerly of Portland was found dead outside his tent at the encampment off Washington Street North, according to Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

First responders went to the encampment about 3:02 p.m. after getting a call about a man with burns to his legs, the Auburn Police Department said earlier this week. A small fire happened in and around Jimino’s tent, according to Moss.

Jimino was dead when authorities arrived.

Moss said Wednesday night that Jimino had recently become homeless.

The Maine medical examiner’s office in Augusta is working to determine his cause and manner of death, but Moss said that foul play isn’t suspected.

His death remains under investigation.
