I call myself a Bangor barnacle because I’ve lived here for so long. From many memories, one stands out: attending a naturalization ceremony at the courthouse. About 20 people from a range of countries had gone through the process and were ready to take the oath. District Court Judge Lance Walker presided, and he was warm and welcoming, inviting the group to share their traditions, their skills, their art — and, not least, their recipes.
As the new citizens, surrounded by joyful friends and families, left the courtroom, they were greeted by volunteers with the League of Women Voters, who offered to register them to vote.
That day, to me, was Bangor at its best.
