Crows are intelligent and notoriously difficult to hunt, no matter the season. Credit: Al Raychard

I read with dismay the article “Why crow hunting is more fun than you think” by Al Raychard, published in Feb. 28-March 1 weekend paper. It’s bad enough to be inundated with pictures of dead turkeys, deer, moose and bears; but I try to be open minded about these “harvests” that potentially fill freezers with food.

Hunting for and killing these amazing and intelligent birds for no other reason than “for fun” is beyond disturbing to me, it’s disgusting, showing no respect for another being’s life. And what do you do with the bodies that are contaminated with lead shot? Leave them for other animals to eat and be poisoned?

And shame on BDN for publishing this article, which only serves to make these senseless killings acceptable.
