SOUTH PORTLAND — Southern Maine Community College sophomore Sean Bosia has secured a landmark achievement for the SMCC SeaWolves, being named the 2026  United States Collegiate Athletic Association Division II Men’s Basketball Student Athlete of the Year.

While SMCC has a long-standing tradition of student-athlete success, Bosia is the first in the  college’s history to receive this specific national recognition. The USCAA Student-Athlete of the  Year is the most prestigious individual honor in Division II. The award is a comprehensive  evaluation of three core pillars: academic achievement, on-court impact and community involvement.

Bosia, a pre-engineering major from Dracut, Massachusetts, excels academically and athletically  at SMCC. He holds a 3.9 GPA and plans to pursue a career in mechanical engineering after  college.

In addition to his studies and athletics, Bosia co-founded the Fellowship of Christian Athletes  chapter at SMCC, which has become a vibrant organization for personal and spiritual growth for  students.

Bosia also supports the athletics department as a student worker. He’s served as a volleyball  line judge, assisted with soccer and managed facility operations, always showing reliability and  enthusiasm.

He frequently visits the Student-Athlete Academic Success Center to study and assist fellow  athletes, contributing to SMCC’s collaborative athletics culture.

On the court, Bosia served as the SeaWolves’ team captain and was a two-year starter. During  the 2025–26 season, he started all 26 regular-season games, averaging 10.7 points and 5.6  rebounds, while leading the team with 50 steals. Known for his defensive intensity, Bosia often  drew the assignment of guarding the opposing team’s top scorer.

His performance earned him Yankee Small College Conference Player of the Week honors  during Week 8, and he is also a two-time YSCC All-Academic selection, further highlighting his  ability to balance athletic success with academic excellence.

“Sean represents everything we strive for in a student-athlete,” SMCC Athletic Director Ethan  Wells said. “His leadership, character and commitment to both his teammates and the campus  community make him truly deserving of this honor.”

SMCC President Kristen Miller said Bosia’s recognition reflects the College’s longstanding  commitment to student success both in the classroom and in competition. “Sean’s achievement  reflects the academic tradition of SMCC student-athletes,” Miller said. “SeaWolves athletes  prove excellence in athletics and academics. Sean exemplifies this through scholarship,  leadership, and dedication.”

Bosia’s USCAA Division II honor is a historic milestone for the  SeaWolves, highlighting SMCC athletics’ focus on academics, leadership, and competitive  excellence.
