A Maine bomb squad destroyed a suspected grenade found near a dumpster in Limington on Monday evening.

The grenade, which resembled a military-style M67, was found about 5:30 p.m. near a dumpster along Number 1 Road, according to Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

Technicians attempted to X-ray the grenade, but couldn’t determine what was inside. So out of an abundance of caution, the bomb squad destroyed it.

While the exact nature of the grenade couldn’t be determined, Moss said, it appeared to have been altered before its discovery.
