As I’ve frequently seen her do, Sen. Susan Collins contorts herself into pretzels to provide critical Republican support for what I believe is President Donald Trump’s increasingly unhinged and destructive behavior, all the while posturing as Maine’s independent senator. Last week it’s refusing to rein in Trump’s war of whim, declining to call it a war if there are no “boots on the ground.”

If a foreign nation were to attack our state from the skies, killing more than a thousand of Mainers including more than a hundred schoolchildren, destroying thousands of homes and businesses, and displacing millions from their homes, I wonder if Collins would be better able to think of a three letter word that might suitably describe this “thing” that Trump started.
