A decomposed body was found Thursday morning in Portland’s woods.

The body was found at about 8:42 a.m. in the woods behind the Homeless Services Center on Riverside Avenue, according to Brad Nadeau, a spokesperson for the Portland Police Department.

The remains had been in the woods for a significant amount of time.

The death doesn’t appear suspicious, but the Maine medical examiner’s office in Augusta will determine the cause and manner of death.

Police are still working to determine the person’s identity.
