Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner is joining union members Tuesday morning on the picket line as they fight for fair wages, affordable health care and retirement security.
The Bath Marine Draftsmen’s Association are the workers picketing outside Bath Iron Works after they voted Sunday to reject the proposed “best and final offer” from General Dynamics and the shipyard.
The union represents 627 workers at the historic shipyard, where naval ships have been built for more than a century.
Bath Iron Works, a subsidiary of General Dynamics, said its proposed contract included “historic annual wage increases” of 10.1% in the first year followed by 4% in each of the following three years.
Workers feel that striking is the only way to fight for their security and change the company’s stance.
They’re asking for better pay, more affordable insurance and a few other improvements.
