Waldo County’s 911 phone lines are working again after a multihour outage.
A dispatcher from the county’s regional communications center discovered the issue around 6:40 a.m. Tuesday morning, likely just after the outage, according to communications center director Michael Larrive. The center announced that service was restored just after 10:30 a.m.
The outage was related to Fidium lines being down, possibly in the Northport area, Larrivee said.
During the outage, 911 calls were rerouted to Lincoln County, which then would call the Waldo County center, according to Larrivee.
County officials told residents to call 207-338-2040, option 2, instead to the center’s regular phone line. Normally, all 911 calls from county landlines and cell phones from within the county go to the center, according to the county’s website.
The county’s emergency management agency sent an initial alert about the outage to residents around 9:15 a.m. Tuesday. Dale Rowley, director of the agency, said he was concerned people would not know where to call if they had a medical emergency.
