ROCKLAND, Maine — A state judge has banned a woman from being on the Oyster River Road in Warren for the next year.
Judge John Martin imposed the ban as part of a condition of probation for Leianne Messina, 57, of Montville after she pleaded no contest to the criminal offense of violating a protective order from harassment.
A no-contest plea results in a conviction but allows the person to contest the matter in any civil case.
Messina was sentenced Friday by Martin to a suspended 90-day jail term for violating the protection order. The jail sentence could be served if she violates terms of her probation over the next year. She is barred from having any contact with the victim or his family, and to undergo a psychological evaluation and treatment is required by the probation officer.
The agreement had been reached between the district attorney’s office and defense.
Martin added the ban from being on the Oyster River Road in Warren after the victim spoke via Zoom about the impact the continued harassment by Messina had on him and his family.
A police report filed in the court noted that Messina had been reported for driving by the victim’s house and honking her car horn after the protection order had been issued by the court.
A trial on the charge had been scheduled for next week but is not necessary following the plea.
Martin admonished Messina during the Thursday plea hearing when she twice referred to the victim as a squatter. The judge said if she said that again it would be violating the plea agreement.
