The lawyer for the city of Bangor is resigning after nearly five years on staff.
City Solicitor David Szewczyk submitted his resignation letter on Friday, City Manager Carollynn Lear confirmed to the Bangor Daily News.
Szewczyk was appointed in 2021 and was responsible for representing the city in court, such as in the lawsuit against the Bangor Mall owner, and for advising the city council on ordinances and other legal matters.
His is the latest in a string of high-profile city staff resignations in recent months, including the assistant city manager and the finance director.
Lear could not immediately share when Szewczyk’s last day will be, though she noted more details will be available soon.
She said she expects that councilors will be more involved with the search for a replacement than they would be with most other department head positions, since the city solicitor reports directly to the council.
Szewczyk did not respond to requests for comment Monday.
