A downtown Bangor staple is closing after more than three decades.
The owners of Taste of India announced Sunday that they made a “difficult decision” to close the restaurant after nearly “36 wonderful years.”
“This is not an easy goodbye, as this restaurant has been so much more than a business to our family. It has been a huge part of our lives, and we have been incredibly fortunate to share it with such an amazing community,” the owners wrote in a social media post.
The owners didn’t specify a reason for the closure, but said they are “looking forward to enjoying retirement, spending more time with our family, and making new memories with the people we love.”
The news was met with shock and sadness, with Mainers sharing their favorite memories of the restaurant. Some professed that the restaurant inspired their love of Indian food, while others could recall the first time they ate there, despite it being decades ago.
“From the bottom of our hearts, thank you, Bangor and the surrounding communities, for 36 incredible years. You will always hold a special place in our hearts, and we will miss you all so much,” Taste of India’s owners wrote in their farewell.
