A China man allegedly knocked an ATV rider unconscious and then kicked the man on the ground until his passenger reached for a knife.
Brent Elisens has been charged with assault, disorderly conduct and criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, according to J. Chris Read, chief deputy of the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office.
Elisens allegedly drove a Toyota pickup truck at the pair while they traveled in an ATV along the side of Bog Road from one trail to another about 3:57 p.m. Saturday.
After stopping next to them, Elisens allegedly got out, ran up to them and yelled obscenities.
He allegedly punched the ATV’s driver hard enough that his head struck his female passenger and he fell into a ditch unconscious.
Elisens allegedly then kicked the man while he lay unconscious in the ditch and didn’t stop until the man’s female passenger reached for a knife on her belt.
Elisens, who is 6-foot-2 and weighs 225 pounds, has a history of conflicts with his neighbors on Bog Road and others traveling along it, Read said Monday afternoon.
The sheriff’s office has been unsuccessful in getting Elisen to accept services to help him, according to Read.
“This is an unfortunate incident that can hopefully be prevented in the future; however, law enforcement can only offer so much help when there are victims of unlawful behavior,” Read said in a statement.
Ellisen was held with bail at the Kennebec County Jail in Augusta.
