A Medway man has been arrested for allegedly starting fires in two Penobscot County towns that destroyed his own camper and car.

The camper fire was reported shortly before 11 p.m, Sept. 30, on Turnpike Road in Medway. The fire destroyed the camper and damaged a nearby mobile home and storage shelter, according to the Maine fire marshal’s office, whose investigators were called in to determine the cause.

The fire marshal’s office was called the next day to a car fire in a Woodville gravel pit. Investigators determined that both the camper and the car were owned by Paul York, 41, of Medway.

On Monday, East Millinocket police arrested York on a warrant obtained by the fire marshal’s office.

He was taken to Penobscot County Jail and is charged with two counts of arson, aggravated criminal mischief and violating conditions of release.
