More than 8% of residents in the Downeast Maine region are estimated to be living with a substance use disorder. For many individuals in Hancock County and surrounding communities, accessing treatment has historically required lengthy travel to larger population centers. By bringing evidence-based medication-assisted treatment, counseling and recovery support services directly to Ellsworth, patients can receive care closer to home, reducing barriers that often delay or prevent treatment.

Research shows that medication-assisted treatment reduces illicit opioid-use, decreases overdose risk, improves employment and family stability, and helps individuals remain engaged in long-term recovery. Expanding access to these services supports not only individual recovery, but also healthier families, a stronger workforce, and a safer community.
