Recently, I was doing my grocery shopping when I noticed Sen. Susan Collins a few aisles over, doing hers. My first instinct was to leave her alone. I figured she must have people stopping her all the time with problems and requests, and she deserved a few quiet minutes like anyone else.
But I decided to walk over, introduce myself, and tell her I’m voting for her. I expected a quick handshake. Instead, we had a real conversation. She asked questions, she listened, and she was genuinely interested in what I had to say. Standing there in the middle of the store, it struck me how sincere I believe she is, and how much integrity she carries into every interaction.
Before we parted ways, she took down my name. The very next day, someone from her Senate office reached out to follow up with me. I was honestly amazed. That kind of care isn’t something you can fake.
That moment captured what I’ve always admired about Collins. I believe she is always working, always listening, and always delivering for Maine. I think she has never forgotten where she came from or the people who sent her to Washington and keep her there.
She has my vote, and I hope she has yours.
