Final gathering in statewide community supper series will bring neighbors together through food, storytelling, creativity, and conversation at Cobscook Institute on Nov. 10
TRESCOTT — The Maine Arts Commission, Community Plate, Maine Humanities Council, and Cobscook Institute invite residents of Washington County and the surrounding Downeast region to join Shared Tables, Shared Stories, a free community supper taking place from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 10 at Cobscook Institute, 10 Commissary Point Road.
The evening marks the final gathering in a statewide series of community suppers that has brought Mainers together around shared meals to celebrate the people, cultures, stories, and histories that make their communities unique.
Hosted in partnership with Cobscook Institute, the Trescott supper will provide an opportunity for neighbors, friends, and newcomers to gather around the table, share food and stories and reflect on the connections that make Downeast Maine such a special place to live.
The evening will feature a potluck-style community supper, storytelling, guided conversation and creative activities designed to encourage connection and celebrate the region’s people and traditions.
From the fishing villages and coastal communities of Washington County to the rural towns and neighborhoods that make up the Downeast region, every community has stories worth sharing. Shared Tables, Shared Stories creates a welcoming space for those stories to be heard, whether they are about family traditions, local history, memorable meals or everyday life in this part of Maine.
Residents of all ages and backgrounds are encouraged to attend. Whether you’ve lived in the region your entire life or recently made it your home, everyone is welcome and every voice is part of the conversation.
Guests are invited to bring a favorite dish to share, if they are able, along with the story behind it. Bringing food is encouraged but not required. Participants are equally welcome to simply come, enjoy a meal, listen, and meet their neighbors.
The Trescott gathering concludes a series that has traveled to communities across Maine, including Biddeford, St. Albans, Van Buren, Bangor, West Bethel and Millinocket. Each supper has been shaped by the people and places that hosted it, bringing together residents through the simple but powerful act of sharing a meal.
At its heart, Shared Tables, Shared Stories is about finding common ground, building relationships, and recognizing the experiences that connect people across generations, backgrounds, and communities.
The Trescott supper is presented in collaboration with the Maine Arts Commission, Community Plate, Maine Humanities Council, Cobscook Institute, and local community partners. The project is supported in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts.
